Communications

Hermiston FFA Advanced Parliamentary Team Gets 3rd in National Competition
Sandy McKay highlighted the Hermiston FFA advanced parliamentary team’s impressive third-place finish at the national competition in Indianapolis, Indiana, one of the most challenging contests for FFA students.

Hermiston High School Athletics Win MCC Awards
Larry Usher recognized outstanding achievements in Hermiston athletics, highlighting Troy Blackburn as MCC Cross Country Coach of the Year and Dan Headley as MCC Volleyball Coach of the Year. He also recognized Camryn Hagel for her remarkable performance, earning the title of MCC Volleyball Player of the Year.

Student Board Representative Report
Student Board Representative Franco Mendoza shared updates from Hermiston High School, including:
  • A successful blood drive.
  • The continuation of a canned food drive aiming for 5,000 donations, the last day to donate cans is Friday, 13.
  • Basketball vs Pasco, free entry into the game with a donation of 5 cans at the door.
  • Rage in the cage in the gold gym after the basketball game.
  • Last day of school before winter break is December, 20.

Christmas Express
Ric Sherman and Chaplain Cummings lead conversations about Christmas Express, a community program coordinated by the local police department to bring holiday cheer to families in need. Families are nominated to participate, receiving two boxes of food, and those with children aged 11 or younger also receive a toy. Donations of food, gifts, and money, including contributions from school can drives, support the initiative. Items are organized and distributed at the Agape House, where recipients are scheduled to collect them.

Business Reports

District Audit Report
The independent audit report confirmed full compliance with Oregon laws, including budgets, public contracting, purchasing, and debt limitations, with no material issues or weaknesses in internal controls. Reviews of district-wide compliance, major programs, and federal expenditures, such as special education clusters and Title programs, also found no issues. Overall, the audit resulted in a clean report with no findings of noncompliance.

Financial Report by Katie Saul
The director of business services reported strong October revenues, including higher-than-projected taxes and vendor refunds. Updates included steady rental tax turnover, state fund alignment, increased unpaid leave, payroll savings from Paid Leave Oregon, and delayed invoice processing.
