The Hermiston School District board of directors made their final decision on the graduation venue. After much thought, consideration and deliberation, six Board of Directors voted to move the graduation venue to the Toyota Center for 2018 one member opposed the decision. Graduation will take place the evening of Thursday, June 7.

In August the Board of Directors tasked administration to provide options other than the Hermiston High School gym due to overcrowding with increasing class sizes. Information was gathered and presented to the Board. Two different surveys went out to parents, students, staff, and community members to provide feedback. A similar survey was conducted at the high school, to get better participation from senior students.

“The Board has taken much time and study while making this decision. The voices that carried the most weight were the graduating seniors, their parents and school staff,” said Board Chair Karen Sherman.  “Of all of the options holding graduation at the Toyota Center is the best choice at this time, providing a venue that is fiscally viable, makes it possible for everyone wishing to attend to do so and to be in a comfortable setting. We appreciate the input from the community and look forward to celebrating the Class of 2018.”
